PROGRAM
The world’s top ballet company comes to Japan! A packed lineup of masterpieces!
A spectacular performance showcasing the world of John Neumeier and the talents of a ballet company to the max!
John Neumeier conjures visions of humanity with elaborate direction and dramatic tricks, revealing a richly emotional world out of music through his sharp aesthetic and interpretation. This global choreographer has developed strong links to Kyoto since he received the 31st Kyoto Prize (Arts and Philosophy) in 2015.
For his upcoming visit to Kyoto, Neumeier will present a gala performance superbly fusing his extraordinary choreography with the incredible abilities of a ballet company, demonstrating why he has attracted a stronger following from dedicated ballet fans than other international choreographers and troupes.
Rather than a series of excerpts, this gala performance is conceived as a series of fecund fragments from remarkable works layered up by Neumeier like his own life that he devoted to ballet. The performance begins with the choreographer’s own narration and encompasses stories from ballet such as Lady of the Camellias, a famous tale of young lovers, Nijinsky, based on the legendary dancer, and The Nutcracker, which weaves a love for ballet, as well as symphonic ballets set to Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 and the St. Matthew Passion that accentuate the vision of master composers through an original approach. Enjoy the alluring and grand world of Neumeier.
