The lineup of ROHM Theatre Kyoto productions in 2024 is packed with the rich spirit of inquiry and intellectual adventure of artists from Japan and around the world.
In the ROHM Theatre Kyoto Repertory Premiere series, which aspires to build up a body of work that forms the assets of the theatre, Satoko Ichihara presents a new play that casts a disquieting gaze at society with her customary sharp sensitivity and exact writing. Based on interviews with women in various circumstances and research about the body, the exciting production features a mixed Japanese and Korean cast and crew. The program also includes a co-production with seven public theatres and orchestras in Japan of the opera La bohème, conducted by Michiyoshi Inoue, who served as the nineth resident conductor of the City of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra from April 1990 to March 1998. Having announced his December 2024 retirement, this marks the final opera that Inoue will conduct as well as his first and last appearance at ROHM Theatre Kyoto.
