The fourth year of a new program supporting the next generation of artistic talent to create work in Kyoto

For 2021, the following two artists were selected: the Kyoto-based Hirotaka Fukui and the Tokyo-based Osamu Shikichi. As a director, Fukui focuses on the relationship between people, things, and space, illuminating their interrelation through the framework of theatre, and employing various approaches to reinterpret the existing world. His new work, Desktop Theatre, draws a parallel between the image of a theatre and the fundamental function of a table—that is, a place to put objects and a place for people to gather—and searches for a stage that is shared in new ways by people and things.
