PROGRAM
2020.06.29|KYOTO EXPERIMENT Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival 2020 was scheduled to be held this fall due to the spread of a new coronavirus infection. The festival will be held from February 3rd (Wednesday) to March 28th (Sunday), 2021. It will also be held as KYOTO EXPERIMENT Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival 2021 SPRING.
First held in 2010, Kyoto Experiment is an international performing arts festival that takes place annually. Presenting a lineup of cutting-edge, experimental performances from around the world, the roughly one-month festival features theatre, dance, music, visual art, and more.
From the 2020 edition, the festival is overseen by a group of three directors. It focuses on forms of expression that challenge the possibilities of the performing arts and transcending existing conventions. It also promotes a wide-ranging program of exchange with audiences and aspires to be a platform for dialogue and ideas through the performing arts.
Due to the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Kyoto Experiment: Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival 2020, the 11th edition of the festival originally scheduled to take place this Autumn, will be postponed to February 3rd (Weds) – March 28th (Sun) 2021 and held with the name Kyoto Experiment: Kyoto International Performing Arts Festival Spring 2021. The decision to postpone Kyoto Experiment is due to the global spread of the coronavirus disease and the impact this has on restrictions of movement of the festival’s participating artists as well as in securing time for the creation of new work. The festival will be held whilst ensuring strict measures are taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease. The announcement of the full program is scheduled for mid November.
