Two pieces about life and deat
Amongst Fauré’s body of work, his requiem is the most frequently performed. With its lullaby-like warm and gentle resonance, it is a masterpiece replete with prayers for repose and reflections on life and death. This concert uses the arrangement by Takatomi Nobunaga, allowing audiences to enjoy the familiar requiem in a fresh way that retains the resonance of the chorus while focusing the music on the orchestra.
Umidori no uta (Poems of the Seabirds) portrays the vigor and beauty of the titular creatures who survive against all the odds in the harsh natural world. Encompassing the wish to overcome difficulty, this piece is especially rousing for audiences listening in the age of COVID-19.
