About
Uryuyama Overtone Ensemble
The Uryuyama Overtone Ensemble specializes in harmonic overtones that are possibly representative of a very small part of Sakyo ward in Kyoto. Its improvised performances, featuring pretty much anything that can make sounds, from a Jew’s harp to khoomei, tanpura, and other folk instruments, or electronic instruments combined with daily utensils like a rice booker or Buddhist altar rice bowl, and its renditions of folk songs from the southern Siberian republic of Tuva with such local traditional instruments as the igil and chanzy invite audiences into the radiant world of overtones.
