The 21st installment in this series of free performances of music of various genres.
François-Xavier Richard’s paper organ produces a variety of sounds when struck or rotated, just like a regular musical instrument. He here performs on the organ in two different and exciting styles.
One uses the organ as a percussion instrument in which delicate and diverse sounds unique to paper weave together a rich world of sound. The other uses the organ to tell a narrative. Performer Muriel Marschal has reconstructed several stories from the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters), a chronicle of Japanese myths and histories, creating a work in which the music of the paper organ and the stories intertwine beautifully.
