PROGRAM
Since the reopening of ROHM Theatre Kyoto in 2016, the Opera for High School Students program has staged productions of The Marriage of Figaro, Madama Butterfly, The Magic Flute, and Don Pasquale. For its 2023 production, audiences have another chance to enjoy the popular staging of The Magic Flute that is part of the New National Theatre, Tokyo’s opera repertoire. It is presented with a cast drawn from Japan’s leading vocal talents and with music performed by the City of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra. Directed by contemporary art giant William Kentridge to vividly capture the inner minds of the characters, this is a production guaranteed to stir the imaginations of high school students and inspire interest in opera.
