PROGRAM
Further developing the Traditional Theatre as Contemporary Performing Arts Series, an event showcasing the wonder of Japanese folk performance
A joint project by ROHM Theatre Kyoto and NAHA Cultural Arts Theater NAHArt (scheduled to open in October 2021), this performance features examples of dancing and singing from across Okinawa cultivated at the rituals and festivals passed down by our ancestors. NAHA Cultural Arts Theater NAHArt plans to hold the event as part of its opening program. Overseen by experts and researchers from the Miyako, Yaeyama, and Ryukyu islands, the event offers a unique opportunity for audiences to gaze out at the islands and experience the gradually accumulated heritage and creation, from the ancient songs to the making of new performances today.
