PROGRAM
Commemorating six decades of performances and activities by the Kyoto-based ballet group
This ballet version of “Carmina Burana” is a major work by the late Jun Ishii, one of Japan’s most distinguished choreographers, and a powerful and spectacular ensemble piece richly portraying people who exalt life all while they are manipulated by fate. Set to music by Léo Delibes that is endearing, beautiful, and abundantly folk in quality, “Coppélia” is a dazzling piece in which ballerinas and prima ballerinas demonstrate their skills. “Spirits of the Forest” is a new work based on the dance scene from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” This is a dance show that everyone can enjoy, from children to adults.
