PROGRAM
Nelly Arcan’s powerful output as a writer drew on her own unique experiences as a high-class sex worker. Featuring six actresses and a dancer, this is an ambitious theatre collage adapted from several of the texts Arcan left behind after her suicide at the age of 36. Exploring the inner suffering and torment of women, Arcan’s characters speak of their universal pain: their femininity, anger, psychological complexes, fears of growing old, families, happiness, sorrow, helplessness, and solitude. Previously staged in Canada in 2013 and 2016, this highly acclaimed play is now performed in Kyoto in a Japanese version.
