A music feast, playing out on five piano

ROHM Theatre Kyoto celebrates its tenth anniversary in January 2026. For the first time since opening, the theatre’s five pianos that have graced the stage at numerous recitals will be together in one place. This concert features three performances, each on a different theme. Enjoy a variety of arrangements, performed by up-and-coming pianists set to dominate Japanese classical music in the near future.

Shota Nakano

Shota Nakano

He entered the Juilliard School Pre-College in 1999. He then advanced to The Juilliard School, studying piano with Yoheved Kaplinsky and chamber music with Itzhak Perlman, and received his master’s degree in 2009.
Nakano has performed with numerous orchestras and conductors, including the NHK Symphony conducted by Charles Dutoit, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony conducted by Ken-ichiro Kobayashi, and the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Seiji Ozawa.
Recently he has performed Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Eiji Oue, Schoenfield’s “Four Parables” with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Nott, and appeared in “Einstein on the Beach” at Kanagawa Kenmin Hall. He has also performed works for piano and orchestra at the request of Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Based on his classical foundations, Nakano continues to expand his musical activity into fields including composition, arrangement and jazz.

Miyuji Kaneko

Miyuji Kaneko

In 1989, Miyuji Kaneko was born in Japan to a Japanese father and a Hungarian mother.
At the age of 6, he moved to Hungary alone and entered the Bartok Elementary School of Music. At the age of 11, he skipped grades and was accepted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. After finishing all the courses at age 16, he returned to Japan and was admitted to the Tokyo College of Music High School and received a Master of Musical Arts Diploma at the graduate program of the Tokyo College of Music.
Miyuji has won several international competitions and awards, including the Bartok International Piano Competition in Hungary, 2008. He received the 22nd Idemitsu Music Award and other honors.
Miyuji has played with conductors Zoltan Kocsis, KenIchiro Kobayashi, Jonathan Nott, and so on. He also performs extensively abroad.
He appears regularly in TV and Radio programs, magazines and social media, also being a regular radio personality on NHK-FM’s program “Recital Passio”.He released the CD “Freude” on Deutsche Grammophon. Miyuji Kaneko is an Honorary Citizen of Kismaros, Hungary. He is a Steinway Artist.

Fumiya Koido

Fumiya Koido

He has won numerous competitions both in Japan and abroad, including the 87th Music Competition of Japan and the 15th Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition (UK).
In May 2022, he toured the UK as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, receiving rave reviews.
To date, he has performed in Japan with orchestras including the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has appeared on BBC Radio 3, Untitled Concert, NHK FM Recital Passio, and other media both in Japan and overseas.
Graduated from the Faculty of Music at Toho Gakuen School of Music with honors. After completing the Toho Gakuen Soloist Diploma Course, she completed the Imola Conservatory in Italy. He is currently studying the Conservatory’s Post-Diploma Course. He has studied under Boris Petrushyansky, Mina Fukagawa, and Mamiko Suda.

Ryoma Takagi

Ryoma Takagi

He was brought to worldwide attention when he won First Prize and Audience Prize at the 16th Grieg International Piano Competition. Also, he won first prizes at other seven international competitions, including the 26th Roma International Piano Competition.
He performed at the exceptional venues such as Wiener Musikverein in Vienna, Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna, Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, Gasteig in Munich, the Kremlin in Moscow, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and Festival Hall in Osaka. He works with outstanding orchestras in the world, including Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and New Japan Philharmonic.
He has shown his remarkable musicality in chamber music as he collaborates with prestigious artists such as Fumiaki Miura, Sergei Nakariakov, and Ray Chen. As an active pianist in demand, he appeared in the media and festivals in Japan.He was appointed as the instructor of Kyoto City University of Arts in 2023.

Miki Yamagata

Miki Yamagata

She was born in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture in 2002. She won First Prize, in the piano division of the 89th Music Competition of Japan. Yamagata was the Special Class finalist at the 44th PTNA Piano Competition. She won the most excellent prize in the young pianist division, Kanagawa Governor’s Prize (Grand Prix), and First Prize in the piano division at the 35th Kanagawa Music Competition.
She has performed with the Polish Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra, Prima Vista String Quartet, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
She won the Munetsugu Tokuji scholarship of the University for 2020. She was Chanel Pygmalion Days Participating Artist in 2022, and ROHM Music Foundation Scholarship Recipient in 2022 and 2023. She was also Aoyama Music Foundation Scholarship Recipient in 2023.
She is enrolled in the Piano Department of the Second Cycle at the Conservatoire de Paris, after graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts. Studied under Hortense She has studied under CARTIER-BRESSON, Fernando Rossano, Seizo Azuma, and Yukiko Hibiya.
