Prominent international performances offer ideal first theatre experiences for kids in Kyoto!

This regular Play! Theatre series that features performances for families and friends brings a special program to Kyoto this spring. Not only ROHM Theatre Kyoto, the performances are staged also at five culture halls around the city. These quality productions are ideal for offering children their first experiences of theatre. The performers are award-winning groups who have garnered acclaim at children’s theatre festivals around the world. By coming into touch with the diversity of culture, we can foster the inherent creativity that all children possess. There are also various free events before and after the performances.

(1) ages 1–5 and adults
(2) ages 0–1.5 and adults
(3) ages 2+ and adults

Midnight Theatre Company (Miðnætti)

Midnight Theatre Company (Miðnætti) was formed by actress and director Agnes Wild, musician Sigrún Harðardóttir, and theatre designer Eva Björg Harðardóttir. One of its greatest qualities is that its members come from different directions within the arts, but all of its projects are visually eye-catching and bring theatre and music together equally. The company was nominated for the Icelandic Stage Awards in 2017 for Best Children’s Play and Best Choreography. It has received funding from the government of Iceland, City of Reykjavík, and Rotary and Kulturkontakt Nord.
